  11. Welcome to my final issue of Phrack World News.  Many people are
  12. wondering why I am giving it up.  There are several reasons, but
  13. the most important is that I will be going to college and will
  14. have little (if any) time for the phreak/hack world or PWN.  I
  15. doubt I will even be calling any bulletin boards, but I may make
  16. an occasional call to a few of my friends in the community.
  17.  
  18. The Phrack Inc. VMS is no longer in service and messages will not
  19. be received there by anyone.  Phrack Inc. is now in the hands of
  20. Sir Francis Drake, Elric Of Imrryr, and Shooting Shark.

  27. I'm going to assume that all of you have read PWN 14/2 and the
  28. details surrounding SummerCon '87.
  29.  
  30. This article will feature information collected from our
  31. investigation and quotes from the Noah Tape.
  32.  
  33. The tape actually has two parts.  The front side has part of an
  34. Alliance Teleconference in which Noah attempted to gather
  35. information by engineering hackers.  Side B contains 45 minutes
  36. of a conversation between Noah and John Maxfield of BoardScan, in
  37. which Noah tried to engineer Maxfield into giving him information
  38. on certain hackers by trading him information on other hackers.
  39. All of this has been going on for a long time although we are
  40. unsure as to how long and Noah was not exactly an informant for
  41. Maxfield, it was the FBI.

  204. Noah: I got a question, I'm still trying to figure this out.  Are
  205. there people like me who just call you up like this?
  206. John: Yes there are.
  207. Noah: A lot?
  208. John: Enough.  You know its funny, theres people that call up and
  209. there assholes and I'll just hang up on them.  There is other 
  210. people that call up and well you know they try to feed me
  211. bullshit, but at least they aren't being jerks about it.
  212. Noah: You think I'm feeding you bullshit?
  213. John: I dunno, maybe you are or maybe you aren't.  What I'm
  214. saying is that there are people that behave like humans.  So
  215. there are a few that call in.

  217.       You know when you're working with informants, you got
  218. different catagories.  You got informants you can trust and you
  219. got informants that well hold on a second.  There are some
  220. informants, that they could tell me anything and I'd believe
  221. them.  Ok, becaue I know them.  Met them personally maybe or
  222. known the guy for 3 or 4 years, his information is always correct
  223. that sort of thing.

  225.       Then there is somebody like you that umm is kinda maybe a
  226. "Class 2 Informant."  Gives valid phone numbers and information
  227. out, but is not really a true informant.  Then there is a "Class
  228. 3 Informant" thats like, ahh somebody like ORYAN QUEST who calls
  229. up and turns in somebody he doesn't like, but thats all he ever
  230. does.  I don't know if you can call them Class 1, Class 2, Class
  231. 3 exactly but thats how I look at it.

  239. John: Hes one of the jerks that made death threats against me.  I
  240. kinda would like to get him.

  243. Noah: Lemme see if I can catch up with him, I know a few people
  244. in LOD.

  250. John: Oh, he got busted along with MARK TABAS you know, I told
  251. you all about that.

  253. John: He lives out in NPA XXX, but he was going to college in
  254. XXXXXXXXXX and I don't have a number for him there.
  255. Noah: Hes probably back home now.
  256. John: Yeah, but I probably shouldn't give out his number.  He did
  257. get popped. Noah: Aw come on.
  258. John: Nah.

  262. John: Nah. I probably don't have a correct number anyway.
  263. Noah: Dude.  Well if you don't have a correct number then give me
  264. the old number.

  269. John: Nah nah.  Besides I have a feeling that he wouldn't
  270. appreciate being called up by hackers anyway.

  275. Noah: Yes sir.  Because he was talking with THE MARAUDER, you
  276. know, Todd. John: Yeah?

  280. [They went on to discuss THE SAFECRAKER, THE SEPTIC TANK, THE
  281. TWILIGHT ZONE, TORTURE CHAMBER, and THE FEDERATION.  Maxfield
  282. reveled that he had been on TWILIGHT ZONE back when THE MARAUDER
  283. used to run it.  -KL]

  285. Noah: THE MARAUDER is still home, he didn't go to college.
  286. John: Yeah, MARAUDER, now he is heavy duty.
  287. Noah: Yeah, he knows his snit (not a typo).  However, he doesn't
  288. brag about it.
  289. John: Well the thing is, you know is what the hell is he trying
  290. to accomplish? I sometimes kinda wonder what motivates somebody
  291. like that.
  292. Noah: What do you mean?
  293. John: Well he wants to screw around with all this stuff, but
  294. whats the point?

  296. SIGMUND FRAUD, MAX FILES, TOMMY HAWK, TUC, PHRACK INC., MARK
  297. TABAS, were next to be discussed.  Afterwhich MAXFIELD went on to
  298. retell a story about a district attorney in California that
  299. referred to him as a legend in his own time.  Noah then started
  300. asking about CAPTAIN CRUNCH and Easywriter, and Maxfield told him
  301. the story of CAPTAIN CRUNCH's latest bust.

  303. THE DISK JOCKEY, DOC HOLIDAY, THE MARAUDER, BIG BROTHER, ARTHUR
  304. DENT, THE WEASLE, BILL FROM RNOC, THE 414 WIZARD, THE
  305. EXECUTIONER, and LORD DIGITAL were next.
  306.  
  307. Then it was Noah's turn to unload (although Noah had already
  308. given out information on many of the previously mentioned
  309. people).
  310.  
  311. TUC, THE TELECOM SECURITY GROUP, CELTIC PHROST, ZEPPLIN, and
  312. GENGHIS KHAN had their information handed out freely.
  313.  
  314. John: I guess I'm going to have the goons come over and pay you a
  315. visit.
  316. Noah: Who me?
  317. John: Take your computer, clean your room for you.
  318. Noah: No, no, please... don't... you can't do that.  I'll be an
  319. informant dammit.  I'll give you all my files, I'll send them
  320. immediately... Federal Express.
  321. John: Sounds good.
  322. Noah: Has anyone ever really done that?
  323. John: Well not by Federal Express.
  324. Noah: I'll send you all my manuals, everything.  I'll even tell
  325. you my favorite Sprint code.
  326. John: Sprint would appreciate that.  You know, its interesting
  327. that you know MARAUDER.
  328. Noah: Todd and I, yeah, well we're on a first name basis.

  330. [Yeah you know his first name but thats as far as it goes, isn't
  331. it Noah. -KL]

  333. Noah gave out more people's information and the conversation ran
  334. on for another 20 minutes.  The problem is that this is when the
  335. tape ran out, but the conversation was going strong.  Noah was
  336. giving out numbers alphabetically and he was still in the C-G
  337. area when the tape ran out.  There is no telling as to what was
  338. discussed next.
  339.  
  340. All of the people mentioned at the beginning were discussed in
  341. depth and the excerpts shown here do not necessarily show the
  342. extent of the discussion.  I didn't transcript the entire
  343. conversation because in doing so would publically release
  344. information that would be unproductive to our society.
  345.  
  346. So, many of you are probably still asking yourself, where did we
  347. get the FBI connection from?  Well, some time ago, DAN THE
  348. OPERATOR used to hang out with THE TRADER and they were into some
  349. kind of stock fraud using Bank Americard or something along those
  350. lines.  Something went wrong and Noah was visited by the FBI.  As
  351. it turns out, Noah became their informant and they dropped the
  352. charges.
  353.  
  354. Sometime later, Noah tried to set up TERMINUS (see the current
  355. Phrack Prophile) to meet (unknowingly) with the FBI and give them
  356. a tour of his board.  TERMINUS realized what was going on and
  357. Noah's plans were ruined.
  358.  
  359. I hope you learned from this story, don't let yourself be
  360. manuvered by people like Noah.  There are more informants out
  361. there than you think.

  372. This article is not meant to be as in depth as the SummerCon
  373. issue, but I think you'll enjoy it.

  375. Before we begin, here is a list of the total phreak/hack
  376. attendees;
  377.  
  378. Cheap Shades / Control C / Forest Ranger / Knight Lightning /
  379. Loki / Lucifer 666 / Mad Hatter / Sir William / Synthetic Slug /
  380. Taran King / The Cutthroat / The Disk Jockey / The Mad Hacker
  381.  
  382. Other people who attended that should be made a note of include;
  383. Dan and Jeff (Two of Control C's roommates that were pretty
  384. cool), Dennis (The Menace); one of Control C's neighbors, Connie;
  385. The Mad Hacker's girlfriend (at the time anyway), and the United
  386. States Secret Service; they weren't actually at PartyCon, but
  387. they kept a close watch from a distance.
  388.  
  389. For me, it started Friday morning when Cheap Shades and I met
  390. Forest Ranger and Taran King at Taran's house.  Our trip took us
  391. through Illinois, and we stopped off at a Burger King in Normal,
  392. Illinois (close to Illinois State University). Would you believe
  393. that the majority of the population there had no teeth?
  394.  
  395. Anyway, our next stop was to see Lucifer 666 in his small one-
  396. horse town.  He would follow us later (with Synthetic Slug).  We
  397. arrived at Control C's apartment around 4 PM and found Mad Hatter
  398. alone.  The first thing he made a note of was some sheets of
  399. paper he discoverd (while searching ^C's apartment). I won't go
  400. into what was on the paper.  Although we didn't know it at the
  401. time, he copied the papers and hid them in his bag.  It is
  402. believed that he intended to plant this and other information
  403. inside the apartment so that ^C would get busted.
  404.  
  405. Basically, it was a major party with a few mishaps like Forest
  406. Ranger and Cheap Shades driving into Grand Rapids, Michigan on
  407. Friday night and not getting back till 4 AM Saturday.  We hit
  408. Lake Shore Drive, the beach, a few shopping malls, Chicago's Hard
  409. Rock Cafe, and Rush Street.  It was a lot of fun and we may do it
  410. again sometime soon.

  414. and loss of phone lists due to current problems made it
  415. immpossible for us to contact everyone.
